How to Draw Catnap from Poppy Playtime

Welcome to my drawing club! In today’s class, we’re drawing Catnap from Poppy Playtime.

Let’s begin at the top of our page by drawing two large ovals for the eyes.

Step 1: Draw the Eyes

Start with the left eye by drawing a large oval, starting from the very top, curving all the way down to the bottom, and back up to the top. Leave a small gap between the eyes and draw the same size oval on the right. Ensure that both ovals are aligned and of equal size. Inside each eye, draw a smaller oval towards the inner side. Fill these inner ovals with black to create the pupils.

Step 2: Draw the Nose and Mouth

Move down to the center and draw the top of the nose with a curve going up and then down. From the ends of this curve, bend the lines down towards the center and fill in the nose. Above the nose, add a small fold line going up and then down. For the mouth, start from the center of the nose, curve down around the eye, and up towards the side. Repeat this on the other side. Draw the outline of the mouth by starting back on the left, rounding it out, and curving in towards the center. Add the tongue inside the mouth by drawing two curves up and then down on either side. Fill the inside of the mouth with black.

Step 3: Draw the Head and Ears

Now that we’ve drawn the face, we’ll work on the bottom half of the head. Start just above the mouth on the left side, curve up and then down. Add fur details along the cheeks by drawing small outward curves. Repeat this on the right side. To complete the head, follow the curve of the mouth down and in towards the neck, leaving a gap in the center. From the top of the cheeks, curve the head up above the eyes, around, and down. Draw the ears by starting on the left, bending up and out, rounding the tip, and curving back down to the cheeks. Repeat on the right side.

Step 4: Draw the Body and Arms

Move down to draw the body. Start from the left side under the head, curve the body down and out, rounding the hip, and pulling it back in. Repeat this on the right side. Between the hips, draw a curve up and down. Draw a straight line in the center for the body, rounding out the bottom of the feet on both sides. Draw the top of the feet by curving up and down towards the heel, leaving a gap inside. From the hips, bend the legs down and out on top of the feet. Separate the toes with a curve on either side and the ankles with a small curve.

For the arms, start from the hip and draw the thumb coming down and then up. Add the index finger coming down at an angle, rounding it out, and bringing it back in. Fold the second finger behind, then bend the arm coming in and up under the head. Separate the wrist with a curve towards the body.

Step 5: Add Details and Tail

Draw a large ‘C’ in the center of the body, almost like drawing a circle, flattening out the ends with two straight lines. Trace the inside of the ‘C’. Underneath the chin, draw two straight lines coming in towards the ‘C’. For the tail, start from the hip, curve out and around the bottom of the feet, up on the right side, and back in. Trace this curve along the outside, leaving an even gap all the way around.

Final Touches

Continue the curve of the tail over on the left side, starting from the hand, curving out, rounding the end, and bringing it back in towards the hand. Sign your art and add a splash of color.

And that’s pretty much it! That’s how you draw Catnap from Poppy Playtime. I hope you enjoyed today’s lesson.
