Welcome to my drawing club! In today’s drawing tutorial, we’re going to be drawing and coloring Goku from Dragon Ball.
Step 1: Sketch the Head
Begin by sketching a large circle at the top center of your page, leaving a gap on the left side. Use short, light lines to form the circle. Next, add a vertical guideline down the center of the circle to help with symmetry. Extend this guideline up and down past the circle. Then, draw horizontal guidelines across the circle to mark the eyes’ placement. These initial lines will help in aligning the facial features.
Step 2: Draw the Eyes and Nose
Move on to sketching the eyes. Leave a gap in the center and curve the brow in and up on the left side. Repeat on the right side, pulling the brow up at an angle. From the ends of the brows, draw the upper eyelids by curving down and pulling them toward the center of the circle. Inside each eye, add a small circle for the pupil and another tiny circle for the highlight. Beneath the eyes, draw the nose with a straight line coming down to the tip, followed by an angled line going up and out to form the bridge.
Step 3: Shape the Mouth and Jaw
Below the nose, sketch the mouth starting with a curve coming down and back up. Round out the sides and draw a slight curve at the bottom for the lower lip. For the jaw, extend lines from the bottom of the mouth outward and then down to form the jawline, tapering it inward towards the chin. Add a small curve for the chin to complete the jaw.
Step 4: Add Ears and Hair
Draw the ears starting from the sides of the head circle. Curve out and round the tops of the ears, pulling them back in toward the head. Inside the ears, add folds to show detail. Next, begin layering the hair. Start in the middle, drawing large spikes curving outwards and tapering back in towards the head. Vary the size and direction of the spikes to create Goku’s signature hairstyle. Add highlights by drawing smaller lines within the spikes, indicating light reflections.
Step 5: Draw the Neck and Shoulders
From the jawline, draw the neck curving outward and downward. Add a slight fold inside the neck to show muscle definition. For the shoulders, draw lines extending out from the base of the neck and curving downwards. Sketch the collar of Goku’s shirt just below the neck, with curves on each side to represent the folds. Add the top of the vest by drawing curved lines outward and down to the sides.
Step 6: Finalize the Details and Color
Go over your pencil lines with a fine-point marker to ink the drawing, adding details such as the folds and creases in the clothing. Once the ink is dry, erase any remaining pencil lines. Use a light skin tone to color Goku’s face and neck, shading under the hair and around the eyes for depth. Color the shirt dark blue and the vest bright orange. Use a slightly darker orange to shade the vest and a pink color for the tongue. Add gray to fill in the highlights of the hair, and use a thick black marker to color the rest of the hair, working around the highlights. Finally, sign your artwork.
