Hey there! Today, I’m going to show you how to draw Darth Vader from Star Wars. So, grab a piece of paper and something to draw with, and let’s get started!
Step 1: Drawing the Head and Nose
Start by drawing a horizontal line across the center of your page. From each end of this line, draw vertical lines downwards to create a rectangle, leaving the bottom open. Now, draw the top of the nose piece by extending the vertical lines outward and curving them down slightly. Next, focus on the eyes: from the intersections where the horizontal line meets the vertical lines, draw curved lines down and up, forming half circles on each side. Complete the eyes by adding another curve from the bottom points, creating an almond shape. Inside each eye, add a large highlight circle on the top left and a smaller one on the bottom right, then fill in the remaining space with black.
Step 2: Drawing the Muzzle and Mouthpiece
For the mouthpiece, draw diagonal lines from the lower corners of the rectangle downwards to create a V shape. At the bottom of these lines, draw small circles on either side to represent the rivets. Connect these circles with a straight horizontal line. Inside the V, draw another, smaller V to add depth. Then, outline the inner bevel by leaving a small gap from the corners of the V, drawing a rectangle with a consistent width all around. Add two vertical lines down the center, creating an appearance of separation in the mouthpiece.
Step 3: Drawing the Helmet
From the top edge of each eye, draw lines outward and then curve them upwards to form the side guards of the helmet. Ensure that these lines are the same height as the rivets. Extend lines horizontally from the rivets, then draw downward lines at a shallow angle. Round out the ends of the side guards with a curve. For the central strip of the helmet, draw a curve at the top, extending the line down to connect with the side guards. Add the height of the helmet by drawing curves from the ends of the top curve, extending up and rounding back down to the sides of the head. Draw a curve from each side of the helmet towards the middle of the head to form the top.
Step 4: Drawing the Arms and Hands
Position the hands in front of the body, holding a lightsaber. Start by drawing the thumb of the right hand as a small oval. From there, draw the handle of the lightsaber next to the thumb, with a curve for the grip. Wrap the fingers around the handle, drawing each finger as a curve. Draw the handle extending out at an angle. For the left hand, position it below the right hand, drawing the fingers as curved lines wrapping around the handle. Draw the remaining fingers overlapping, and then draw the arms extending up to the shoulders.
Step 5: Drawing the Body and Armor
Start with the shoulder armor, drawing curved lines from the helmet’s side guards down to the hands. Draw the cowl by connecting the shoulder lines with a curve across the chest. Add the neck by drawing a half-circle below the head, then add a smaller half-circle underneath it for detail. Draw the stripes on the cowl by drawing evenly spaced lines radiating outward from the center. Draw the control panel on the chest as a rectangle with two circles on the left and two rectangles on the right.
Step 6: Drawing the Lower Body and Cape
For the lower body, draw a curve for the waistline, then draw the inner legs by stepping inwards and drawing lines down to the heels. Round out the bottom of the feet and draw the top of the feet curving back up towards the legs. Draw the outer legs wide, curving out from the hips to the feet. Add details like shin guards and the tops of the boots with curved lines. Draw the cape by following the curve of the shoulders and flaring it outwards at the bottom. Connect the sides of the cape with curves behind the legs and add the back of the helmet with curves from the jaw to the top of the cape.
And that’s it! You’ve drawn a chibi version of Darth Vader. I hope you enjoyed this lesson.
